Day on the Town..

Camille, Kate, Mackelle (Kate's friend) & I had a day on the town. First we hit Eastern Market, where I bought some infinity scarves (I know I already have a million). After hitting the market & seeing all of the wonderful things there we took a trip to Georgetown.

Five Guys in Georgetown. First time I have ever been to Five Guys if you can believe it. Really good & of course needed to take a picture. This is one of the original Five Guys locations.

After getting some lunch we decided to get some famous DC/Georgetown cupcakes. We had to wait in a line out the door for a $3 cupcake, but it was sooo good. I got an oreo cookies & cream one.

Found a little alleyway which was kind of cool. It had a bridge... with really disgusting water underneath it. So besides the gross water it was really pretty, haha.

Yet another view of the Washington Monument (from the south side of the White House)

Old Town Alexandria

Such a cute little part of down. A beautiful street full of colonial style buildings. All sorts of stores & restaurants. Some little one of a kind places & some of the bigger chains in a cute little shop. Spent a nice evening there with my friends. Just a couple of metro stops away. But since we all went after everyone got home from work & such not all of the shops were open but I did get a cute jacket I can where for work!

A view down one side of the street.

Found this little shop, had to take a picture because one of my best friend's name is Andrea.

American Indian Museum

Went to the American Indian Museum after work. There are some really cool things made out of beads. A couple of which I felt needed to be shared.

There is a ton about the different tribes and their beliefs. It's pretty cool to learn about their beliefs & how they live their lives.

Cool Native American statue.

Interesting, & well, notice the bottom... my lovely little sis in Paraguay!!

Memorial Day at Arlington Cemetery

In honor of Memorial Day some of us interns went to Arlington Cemetery.

We got there early enough that we got pretty good seats for the President's speech. It was an excellent speech and honored our Armed Forces & Veterans. And well I got the awesome experience of hearing our President make a speech in person. I am so glad that we got to be there and have that amazing opportunity.

President's speech

I'm not sure anyone can really realize how vast the cemetery is without going there. I always knew it was big but seeing it is an entirely different experience than thinking about it. I am so grateful for all those who have, are, and will serve for our country for the freedoms that we have. It's a larger sacrifice than most people think about on a daily or normal basis. One I think we take for granted far too often. I am so thankful.

My pictures are only a very, very small portion of Arlington cemetery.

Memorials

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial; an inspiration to us all.

D.C. War Memorial.

The flags were set up for Memorial Day weekend.

Washington Monument & the reflection pool.

We were so lucky to be out on such a nice day & be able to get such an amazingly beautiful picture.

FDR memorial

I hadn't realized there was a Memorial for Franklin Delano Roosevelt but I found it was amazing. I absolutely loved it! So inspirational with quotes from him when he was President.

Such an amazing man & President.

And a wonderful wife as well. It's so true that to have world peace everyone has to cooperate, no one person can do it on their own.

Jefferson Memorial... my favorite

My roommate Camille & I took a nice walk around to see the memorials.

The gorgeous Jefferson Memorial. Beautiful and in an amazing location.

Thomas Jefferson

Panoramic of the inside of the Memorial.

George Mason memorial. He was a delegate from Virginia to the U.S. Constitutional Convention. He wrote the Virginia Bill of Rights, which is where the U.S. Bill of Rights was inspired from.

Jazz & China

Friday night on the town..

Every Friday night in the summer there is a Jazz Concert in the National Sculpture Garden. Fun event and packed. This was the first one of the summer. I rather enjoyed it.

There is a fountain in the middle of the garden and we got some seats around it, opposite the stage. Absolutely beautiful.

After the concert my roommates and I headed to China Town to get some dinner and meet up with some of our friends and fellow interns.

While on our adventure we ran into this guy who asked us to name countries. Each time we named a country he would tell us random facts about the country. It was rather entertaining and amazing because he had at least a little something for every country we could throw at him.

Smithsonian Castle

I love D.C. so much! It's amazing and beautiful. Along the national mall there are several garden areas around to walk around in and there are benches where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere and the day.
This fountain is beautiful. It is to the east of the Smithsonian Castle.

The Smithsonian Castle is beautiful. It is the original Smithsonian museum, the Smithsonian museums have now far expanded from this one building. The Castle has been turned into the Visitor's Center now. Inside you can get information about D.C. and the Smithsonian museums. There is a cafe, a souvenir store, and some artifacts inside.

Capitol building, again

After work I decided to walk around the Capitol because it was such a nice day out. And I had yet to see the front of the Capitol building yet..

Very beautiful! I love all of the green around. Seriously everywhere is green, not something you often see in Utah because it's so dry there. The grounds around the Capitol are beautiful. Though with so many trees it's hard to get a picture of the entire length of Capitol building, and I have yet to master getting my panoramic straight.

Straight on view of the Capitol.

Beautiful building. The original Capitol, before the expansion & the add-on of the wings would have been smaller than what you can see of the Capitol in this picture.

Sitting atop the dome of the Capitol building is the Statue of Freedom, facing towards the east.

Me in from of the Capitol building.

It actually ended up raining about five minutes later and I had to run back to the metro.
